The School of Electrical Engineering always put great emphasis on the combination of basic theory and real applications. We carry out the scientific research based on the requirements of national economic development. We have successfully completed more than 1000 research projects, which include the National Natural Science Funds, "973" projects, "863" projects, military projects, and projects supported by Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Agriculture, Shandong province, State Grid company, and other companies, etc. We have published more than 1600 EI papers, 400 SCI papers, and 60 books. More than 70 national/ministerial/provincial science and technology rewards are granted. In 1978, the subject of "improving power system security and stability by semiconductor replay protection" which was led by Prof. Ma Changgui was granted the National Science and Technology Conference award. In 2016, the subject of "Key technologies and application of security defense for dynamic process of interconnected power grid" was granted the first class prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award.
Many great well-known scholars have been invited to the school for academic seminars and exchanged discussions for the past few years. The 4th International Conference on Electric Utility Deregulation and Restructuring and Power Technologies (DRPT2011) in which 310 power experts from the U.S., UK, Germany, Denmark, Canada etc countries and regions participated was held in 2011, in Weihai. China & South Korea Relay Protection Seminar and Smart Grid Protection Control Seminar were respectively organized in 2007 and 2010.The first and the second International Symposium on Smart Grid Methods, Tools and Technologies have been held in 2015 and 2017.
