From February 28 to March 1, 2019, the sixth meeting of the 10th Council of the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering and the working meeting of 2019 were held in Beijing. Professor Zhao Ma, a national special expert of our school, was elected as a foreign fellow of the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering. This is the first group of foreign fellows since the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering.

In order to commend the members who have made great contributions and made outstanding achievements in the field of Electrical Engineering Science and Technology, the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering has carried out the selection of fellows since 2011. Until now, there are 135 fellows (including foreigners) of the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering, and 17 are selected in 2018 and 10 are foreign fellows.

Zhao Ma, Ph.D., CEng, FIET, FCSEE, national special expert, British nationality. He is currently a specially appointed professor and director of Advanced Distribution System Research Center of Shandong University. He has been engaged in research and development of intelligent distribution and new transmission and distribution equipment for a long time. Professor Zhao Ma has participated in several transmission and distribution equipment development and low-carbon smart distribution demonstration projects, providing technical advice to the European Union and many well-known international companies. Over the past five years, he has pioneered and led the application of distribution network health index theory and application, medium and low voltage DC power distribution and artificial intelligence in the health evaluation of distribution network. At the same time, he actively advocated and carried out active distribution system and integrated energy system research; and put forward useful and practical research programs in the direction of high voltage DC circuit breakers and isolated circuit breakers. Because of his outstanding work in the field of active distribution system and distributed energy, he was invited to serve as an expert of CIGRE C6 Strategic Advisory Group and a member of the Chairman Advisory Group of IEC SyC LVDC. He played an important role in CIGRE\IEC\CIRED, the three major international academic organizations, and made a significant contribution to enhancing China's voice and position in the field of distribution network.

The Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering is the largest academic corporate social organization in China. In April 2018, the China Institute of Electrical Engineering signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Shandong University, and relying on the School of Electrical Engineering, established the Shandong University membership center of China Institute of Electrical Engineering. The fellow is the highest academic honor of the members of the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering. It is used to commend the members who have made great contributions in the field of Electrical Engineering Science and Technology and have made outstanding contributions to society. Nomination (recommendation) system is adopted in the selection of fellows, which is generated through the selection process of fellows.
